Chapter 13, exercise 5 , page 332 (Ho Hai Nam, 09ece)

In my opinioon, graph c is the most effective and graph b is the least effective.
To make graph c better, I think we should put detail figures on the top of each bar and we should include some ratio percentage between two bars in a quarter.

Exercise 5 ( chapter 13, page 331, Doãn Hà Tiên)

The three graphs on page 332 illustrate the sales of two products - Series 1 and Series 2 - for each quarter of 2006.

The Third graph is the most effective in conveying the information.
The second graph is the least effective.

If i have a chance to improve the most effective graph become better, i will add exactly the sales number for each product above each column.

Chapter 13, Exercise 5, page 331, Nguyen Quang Minh 08ece

In my opinion, the most effective graph for conveying the information is the graph c. First of all, we can read the value of series easier with the 2-D clustered column. Therefore, we can compare effectively between 4 quarters.

However, the least effective is the graph b. So the graph b uses the 2-D stacked column. It makes me confused to compare the value in the 4 quarters. Additionally, it is so hard for me to read the value between series 1 and series 2.

To make the graph c better, we should convert the number values to the percentage values. By doing this, we can compare the value easier and more effective.

Chapter 12, Exercise 3 , page 287( group 8 , 09ece)

1. Describe the design elements.
The page is divided into 2 columns. The first column gives us some information about the researcher and his study. The second column has the image to give us attention about his study and below this image is a detail for his research. Beside that the text is aligned left and it uses the modern style which the block between each text.
2. Evaluates the design
The page can be read easily because the page uses the modern style for text. The piece of information is so clear. The image is really impressing. Though it is so simple but it can help us to get attention to the article. The text below the image is quite clear. Especially, in the first part of each text, some word is bolded so that it can provide the main ideas of the research. Finally, we also have the supplement material to get further information.
Improving the design
The supplement material should more detail about the material. For example, the material sources, the author and other stuff.
3. Redesign the page

In the first question, all of us agree the first member’s description of the design.
In the second question, the evaluation is so great. However, we can improve the design by adding to the page a chart to help the reader understand easily about the research of Santiago Ramón y Cajal.
And most of us do not like the third member’s design. Its lay-out is looking unprofessional, and seems to be so long.
After having a discussion, we have learned how to use modern style, dividing column, taking fully advantage of page’s space and lay-out of an article.

My website to get information : http://coquinacoastdesal.org/desalting_process.php
My memo
My technical article talks about the desalting process which is the most common technology for handling seawater to fresh water.
There are two basic ways to do this process. First of all, that is membrane process. Membrane processes can be either reverse osmosis (RO) or electro-dialysis (ED).
RO is the procedure to use high pressure pumps to force seawater through a semi-permeable membrane. The semi-permeable membrane is about one one-millionth the diameter of a grain of sand. Because it is so small so that it can filter almost everything in sea water including salt molecules and we can keep refresh water.
ED uses an electrical current to isolate salt and impurities through the use of a semi-permeable, ion-selective membrane and we also have the fresh water.
Additionally, Thermal distillation is one of the best methods of desalinating seawater. The method is so easy, just vaporizing sea water and condensing the vapor form to the liquid form. Finally, we have the fresh water with a small amount of salt.
